Parrot&Pine Cay

A number of Robinson Crusoe-style islands are wedged between Providenciales and North Caicos. All of these little patches of white sand and turquoise sea conjure images of pirates and treasure, adventure and exoticism. Two of the largest are Pine Cay and Parrot Cay.

The hourglass-shaped, 800 acre Pine Cay, was the first of the Turks and Caicos Islands to be developed for tourism. The Meridian Club opened in the early 1970s and now shares the island with 36 homeowners. There are numerous trails on the island and seven freshwater ponds. Bicycles and golf carts are the only means of transport and a small airstrip allows for private aircraft and helicopters to land.

North of Pine Cay and neighboring North Caicos is Parrot Cay. This island also plays host to a luxurious 5-star resort. The original name of the island was Pirate Cay as it was a popular hideout for pirates fleeing from the authorities in Jamaica.

Dellis Cay is the largest island between Pirate and Pine Cays and is the best place in the archipelago for shelling. Another major resort is planned here. A day spent cruising around this and the other cays – French Cay, Little Water Cay, Stubbs Cay, Donna Cay, and Mangrove Cay offers visitors the chance to go diving and snorkeling in turquoise waters and relax on near-deserted beaches.
